Sexy Versus Scrappy Tech: Using IA and AI to Help Real People Do Everyday Things with Carrianne Tuckley

Thursday, October 23, 2025
6:00 PM to 7:30 PM EDT [Online]

Does your job work with sexy, innovative technology? Are you working on cognitive retail applications, bioinformatics, or autonomous delivery? I’m sure there are those of you who are. But in reality, many of us are working on projects where today, tomorrow and this week are what’s important, and our users have much more practical needs.

I work on public sector sites for cities, counties, and libraries. My users are from a wide range of demographics and technological abilities need to be able to complete quite a varied set of tasks.

This talk will outline examples of ways that we use artificial intelligence tools and other technology advances in “scrappy” behind-the-scenes ways to assist citizens in completing everyday tasks.

About our speaker: Carrianne Tuckley

Carrianne is the UX Research and Strategy Manager at Interpersonal Frequency, an agency that designs, builds and hosts websites for public agencies including cities, counties, state agencies, public utilities and libraries. She has over 13 years of experience in Information Architecture and User Experience roles.

Carrianne has been organizing World IA Day in Northeast Ohio since 2015, serves on the board of UX Akron, and served as a mentor for the Akron StartupBus in 2019.

Carrianne is actively involved with many local charitable organizations, most notably the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Delta Sigma Tau local sorority.

When she’s not busy at work, Carrianne loves taking in live music of nearly every genre, race walking, baking, and all sorts of puzzles and games.

Better World Day | Inclusive Design For a Better World [ In- Person ]

October 14, 2025, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM ET

Event by: Better World Day

This is an in-person event at: Midtown Collaboration Center, 1974 East 66th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44103

Inclusive design is a methodology that prioritizes creating products, services, and environments accessible and usable by as many people as possible, regardless of age, ability, background, or circumstance.

Rather than designing for the “average” user, inclusive design embraces human diversity and the full range of user needs. By considering factors like physical ability, cognitive load, language, and cultural context from the outset, inclusive design fosters equity and belonging.

From adaptable interfaces and clear visual hierarchies to alternative text and voice navigation, inclusive solutions not only remove barriers but also enhance the experience for everyone. At its core, inclusive design is not just a practice – it’s a mindset that values empathy, flexibility, and universal access.

Tickets are $12.51 for this event.

AI for the 96%: Closing the Web Accessibility Gap

Thursday, November 6, 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM ET

Event by: World Information Architecture Association

Ninety-six percent of the internet is still inaccessible to people with disabilities, costing businesses billions in lost opportunities. At Incskill, we built AI-powered remediation tools that scan, understand, and fix accessibility issues in real time — helping enterprises meet global compliance standards while unlocking a $1.9 trillion underserved market.

In this talk, Nishit Bhasin will share how to design AI systems that work in high-stakes, real-world environments, lessons from scaling a Techstars-backed startup, and why accessibility should be seen as a core growth strategy, not just a legal requirement.
